The short answer
The clip everyone remakes comes from Made in Jamel, a sketch DVD by French comedian Jamel Debbouze released in December 2010. In one sketch, Stromae plays “Alors on danse” on a small MIDI keyboard next to a laptop in a seamless white studio, while Jamel acts out helping him “find” the hit. It is scripted — but for years people shared it as the real story of how the song was made.
In late September 2026, an AI remake putting two well-known AI-company CEOs in the two roles went viral. Within days the format became a template: two photos in, the same white-studio video out, with you and a friend in the roles.
The sketch, beat by beat
Every good remake keeps the same five beats. This is the structure our 10-second generator follows:
| Time | Shot | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| 0.0–1.6 s | Medium-wide, white studio | On the keys plays the mini keyboard; the hype points at them. |
| 1.6–2.5 s | Lunge to ultra-wide close-up | The hype lunges into the lens — the most screenshotted frame. |
| 2.5–7.0 s | Close-up, keys player behind | The hype raps into the camera while the producer keeps playing and waves to the beat. |
| 7.0 s | Hard cut | Cut to a wide full-body shot. |
| 7.0–10.0 s | Wide, camera pulls back | Both do the bouncy jogging dance, thumbs pointing back at themselves. |
The two roles
On the keys (“the DJ”)
Calm, focused, playing the mini keyboard. In meme captions this is usually “the DJ” or “the producer” — the person who actually does the work. Cast your most deadpan friend.
The hype
Points at the producer, then lunges into the camera for an ultra-wide close-up and raps straight into the lens. That close-up is the most screenshotted frame of the meme, so cast your most expressive friend here.
Why the meme works
- Instant contrast. One person works, the other hypes — everyone knows both people.
- A single big moment. The lunge into the lens lands in the first two seconds, before anyone scrolls.
- An empty white room. Nothing dates it and anyone can be dropped in, which is why AI remakes took off.
- A song everyone knows. “Alors on danse” passed one billion streams in 2026, sixteen years after its release.
Popular versions
- Best friends — the classic: one calm friend on the keys, one chaotic friend lunging.
- Boss and intern / coworkers — the AI-CEO version reimagined for any office.
- Couples — who hypes whom is half the joke.
- Pets on the keys — a cat or dog as the producer, a human doing the hyping.
